Situated on the southerly outskirts of Argostoli, around 10 km / 6 miles from the town centre, Kefalonia Island Airport (EFL) is the main gateway onto this popular island, and each year, more than 400,000 travellers pass through this facility. Daily charter flights link Athens and a number of the other Ionian Islands, including Corfu and Zakynthos (Zante), being operated by Olympic Airlines. Further afield, airlines also fly to many European destinations, such as Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Helsinki, London, Manchester and Newcastle. Sundays tend to the busiest day at Kefalonia Airport and so if you are departing on this day, do arrive with plenty of time to queue for check in.

The main resorts around Kefalonia all tend to contain a number of different car and bicycle rental outlets, which allow you to travel to all of the best beaches with ease. A relatively short walk from Argostoli, Lassi offers the very best choice of car rental, with both local and international companies being located here. From Argostoli, a number of major roads mean that it is very simple to reach places around Kefalonia, such as Fiskardo, Poros and Sami. However, when travelling around central Argostoli, the one-way streets can be a little confusing for some, and local drivers are often far from patient will inexperience holidaymakers driving around their island.

The bus station in Argostoli is located on the southerly waterfront area and daily bus transport serves the Lassi Peninsula, with buses travelling to and from Fiskardo, Poros, Sami and also Skala. There are also further buses which travel around the eastern coast of Kefalonia, connecting Katelios with much of the island. Worth noting, buses only run between Monday and Saturday - and not on Sundays.

Long-distance bus transport links Kefalonia with Athens, using the regular ferry services from Argostoli, Poros and Sami. Further ferry services travel to Agios Nikolaos, Astakos, Frikes, Ithaki (Ithaca), Kyllini (Peloponnese), Patra, Piso Aetos, Vasiliki, Vathy and Zakynthos (Zante). During the high season, ferries operate on a much more regular basis, with additional sailings to Igoumenitsa and Brindisi (Italy). Tickets and ferry information is available at the Blue Sea Travel office on the waterfront in Sami, and also at Argostoli's Vassilatos Shipping office, on the Antoni Tristi, which is located next to the port authority.
